Poem for Wednesday and Jockey's Ridge

The Seed Market
By Jalaluddin Rumi
Translated by Coleman Barks

Can you find another market like this?
Where,
with your one rose
you can buy hundreds of rose gardens?
Where,
for one seed
get a whole wilderness?
For one weak breath,
a divine wind?
You've been fearful
of being absorbed in the ground,
or drawn up by the air.
Now, your waterbead lets go
and drops into the ocean,
where it came from.
It no longer has the form it had,
but it's still water
The essence is the same.
This giving up is not a repenting.
It's a deep honoring of yourself.
When the ocean comes to you as a lover,
marry at once, quickly,
for God's sake!
Don't postpone it!
Existence has no better gift.
No amount of searching
will find this.
A perfect falcon, for no reason
has landed on your shoulder,
and become yours.

Paul worked from home, though the entire family was not in the house together from early morning when Adam went to work in a neighbor's yard. I started laundries, worked on an article, fought with my trial of crashplan -- I am still looking for reliable, reasonably quick, affordable online backup/cloud storage if anyone has suggestions. Then I took Daniel for his annual physical, which went well other than the not-really-news that he had in fact gained the freshman 15. I avoided the news, even Facebook to some extent -- the news and the ranting about it have really been getting to me.

It was a gorgeous day -- there was rain south of us but I didn't see any here, and temperatures were in the low 80s. There are still dead trees all over the woods from the storm last month, but they don't seem to bother the baby deer, and many bunnies were out too. In the evening we watched The Hollow Crown's Henry IV, Part I, which is excellent -- Hiddleston's Hal and Beale's Falstaff in particular, I wasn't as impressed with Dockery's Kate and Irons seemed a bit flat (maybe The Borgias has spoiled him for me). Some photos from Jockey's Ridge State Park in North Carolina, the largest sand dune on the east coast:
