Poem for Wednesday and Canal Turtles

Go, lovely rose!
By Edmund Waller

    Go, lovely rose!
Tell her that wastes her time and me
    That now she knows,
When I resemble her to thee,
How sweet and fair she seems to be.

    Tell her that's young,
And shuns to have her graces spied,
    That hadst thou sprung
In deserts, where no men abide,
Thou must have uncommended died.

    Small is the worth
Of beauty from the light retired;
    Bid her come forth,
Suffer herself to be desired,
And not blush so to be admired.

    Then die! that she
The common fate of all things rare
    May read in thee;
How small a part of time they share
That are so wondrous sweet and fair!

This is going to sound like a total mom brag, but I spent pretty much all of Tuesday morning sorting and filing Adam's awards, programs, certificates of participation, test results and stuff like that -- I've had them all in a big pile since he was midway through tenth grade. Some are things son didn't care about saving, like participation in county arts displays, while some are things I want to make sure he has a copy of, like his high school transcript. Now the papers are organized and I am impressed with everything he did.

We had about twenty minutes of hard rain sandwiched in between a sunny morning and late afternoon. I saw three baby bunnies and one adult, plus several chipmunks, a blue jay, and many squirrels and songbirds. After dinner we caught up on Cosmos and this week's Bill Maher before watching the Orioles win -- we are going to see them play the Blue Jays on Father's Day so it would be nice if Baltimore could be playing well that weekend. Here are some of the many turtles we saw last weekend while walking along the C&O Canal:
