Heat

O wind, rend open the heat,
cut apart the heat,
rend it to tatters.
Fruit cannot drop
through this thick air—
fruit cannot fall into heat
that presses up and blunts
the points of pears
and rounds the grapes.
Cut the heat—
plough through it,
turning it on either side
of your path.

It was beastly hot on Tuesday and I am behind on everything -- mostly what I got done was laundry and some scanning of papers I found while cleaning file folders out. We went out for bagels but did not even take a proper walk because it was so hot before our early dinner, necessary because my Voyager group was watching "The Thaw" in the early evening (I still don't like it much).
