little review

Poem for Saturday

Greetings from a False Star Trek Fan. I have been assured by several people that I am thus, because getting Enterprise renewed for a fifth season is not only not a big priority for me but something I really don't think is a very good idea. Now, I know that I am a total idiot, because I get paid to review Enterprise and even if I don't personally care to see it renewed, it is in my best interest in the short term at least to lobby for it...but I continue to believe that raising millions of dollars on behalf of the series is a very bad precedent to set. Folks, let's donate all that money to the Red Cross and make our own Star Trek like we did in the 1970s when there was none on TV and none on the horizon!

Just wanted to get that out of the way before posting a link to my Enterprise review: "Affliction". Which I really, really enjoyed. It's hard to say how good it is without the second part, because it left so many questions unanswered, but what a fun ride it was. Klingons! And Phlox making macabre jokes! And Reed being so devastated about not having his boyfriend around that he gets into all kinds of trouble! And Sato in hot civilian clothing! See how easy I am to please, Paramount? Damn I feel shallow. I am just too tired and too cold for deep thoughts!

fannish5: Who are your five favorite characters of color?
Off the top of my head, because it feels like a sort of tokenism to think about some of these characters just as characters of color, though in the cases of most of them they are very aware of their ethnicities and the role that played in shaping them:
1. Benjamin Sisko (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
2. Kasidy Yates Sisko (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
3. B'Elanna Torres (Star Trek: Voyager)
4. Nebula (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys)
5. Lao Ma (Xena: Warrior Princess)

I didn't have much new or interesting to say for thefridayfive or fridayfiver. Daily report: older son went home with a friend to work on a science project, so I took younger son to see vertigo66 and her sons, and we (well, the kids) proceeded to make a total disaster area of her basement, and eat her hummus and waffles and Girl Scout Cookies (well, not all together). Of course we could not watch any porn or even just plain interesting movies because there were kids around, but it was fun anyway! Then I had to come home, write a couple of articles, chat with relatives laughing at me for being a professional Trekkie, make plans to go to my sister's tomorrow or maybe not as there is snow forecast but I think we are going anyway, go to my parents for dinner, and come home to review. Which brings us back to where we started. As usual when out of town I will probably be slow responding to things and not reading LJ much so please leave me a link to any important news or fic that I might otherwise miss! I will be so grateful! Have a great weekend!
